From the Ground Up: A Stronger, Drier Crawl Space in Chilliwack
Challenge
The crawl space had several concerns that needed to be addressed together. Groundwater and moisture were putting the space at risk of leaks and damp conditions, while some of the existing supports, including cinder blocks and wood posts, were no longer providing the ideal long-term support for the floor system. A foundation crack also created another potential path for water to enter. On top of that, the old vapour barrier and crawl space access needed an upgrade to create a cleaner, better-protected space.
Solution
We approached the project from the ground up. A new sump pump and exterior discharge system were installed to collect water and safely move it away from the home, with added protection against freezing or blocked discharge lines. The crawl space was cleaned and fully sealed with a new moisture barrier and drainage layer to help control ground seepage.
The old cinder blocks and wood supports were replaced with adjustable steel supports secured beneath the existing beams to improve stability. The foundation crack was also repaired, reinforced, and waterproofed to help prevent future water intrusion.
Finally, we upgraded the crawl space entrance with a new sealed door and access well, leaving the area drier, stronger, cleaner, and better protected for the long term.
